I know an amazing woman...her name is Doreen and I admire her very much.
She is a mother at my daughter's school and a great friend to everyone. A few years ago she was diagnosed with breast cancer (at a stage where there wasn't a further stage). Her counts were humungous and the prognosis was not great. But Doreen is a fighter and a doer and has an amazing support group of friends and family around her. With the help of traditional medicine, her "vodoo" (as she calls it) natural medicines, yoga, and huge amounts of prayers, she was able to beat the cancer and remove most of it from her body. It has come back a bit, but like I said, she is a fighter and will be successful in getting the count down again.
With the first diagnosis, a large group of us decided to support her and her fight by doing the Weekend to End Breast Cancer walk in 2004. It was an incredible experience (and 60km is a lot farther than it sounds!) that I will never forget.
Doreen's husband Dave, is also an amazing person. He has been a great source of strength for Doreen and her two sons, and is doing the walk again in 2007 for the 4th year in a row! It is hard to ask the same people every year for donations (each walker must raise a minimum of $2,000 to participate), so Doreen has asked me to help her organize a fundraising crop to help raise some money for Dave and the Miracle team to help in the fight against Breast Cancer.
So set aside November 4th to join Doreen and her team called Doreen's Miracle for 12 hours of scrapbooking fun! I am so looking forward to being able to sit with all of you and scrapbook for 12 glorious hours! Yipee!!!! And I won't even have to feel guilty, because I will be supporting a wonderful cause! How fun is that!
Download scrap_cancer_crop.doc Click on the download for all the details on this super fun day and how to get tickets. I've been able to get some great donations from some of my suppliers in support of this event including a QuicKutz prize package. All attendees will receive a PE gift certificate and be able to shop at a special sale just for crop participants. I've also designed 3 cute make and takes to include in the goodie bags. Plus Doreen has some fun games with great prizes planned.
I hope that you will be able to come and spend the day with us and support a great cause by doing something you enjoy - scrapbooking! (or cardmaking, or making Christmas gifts, or just sitting around and eating and socializing!) Breast cancer affects 1 in 9 women - help find a cure.
See you there!
