Pigment inkpads are normally used for heat embossing as they stay wet longer, allowing you to put on some embossing powder and then heat.
Dye ink pads dry very fast and are very hard if not impossible to emboss with. Jo passed along this tip she got (unfortunately I don't know who to credit it too) and I can't wait to try it.
To emboss with dye inks: Ink a stamp with Versamark and immediately ink with a dye ink of your choice. Stamp your image on cardstock. Add embossing powder. Tap off excess and heat with your heat gun. The Versamark will keep the dye ink wet so the embossing powder can stick to it.
Another versamark tip from Jo is to stamp with versamark first before using staz-on inks, as this will help your stamp to clean up better with little or no staining. Jo has many more great tips like this that she shares in her stamping classes. Make sure to take one soon!
